Privacy Information/Terms
of Use Statement
October 1, 2002
Thank you for reviewing our Privacy Information and Terms of Use Statement.
The Emergency Fund maintains this website in order to provide you with
information about our work, and to enable you to interact with us on-line.
We recognize that visitors to our site may be concerned about the information
they provide to us, and how we treat that information. This policy addresses
those concerns and describes the limitations placed on your use of the
information and technology we provide at this website.
YOUR USE OF THE WEBSITE CONSTITUTES YOUR AGREEMENT TO THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS
OF THIS STATEMENT.
The Information We Collect
The Emergency Fund is the sole owner of and the only organization that
uses the information collected on this site. We will not sell or exchange
this information with others. We collect information from users in connection
with online donations, annual meeting registration, contributions to special
events, and for any other purposes that are clearly and explicitly identified.
On the online financial transactions pages listed above, the Emergency
Fund collects the following personally identifiable information: name,
address, name of organization (if applicable), e-mail address, phone number,
and credit card information. The personally identifiable information you
provide is used to acknowledge receipt of your donation and to include
you on the
Emergency Fund's mailing list.
If you do not wish to be added to our mailing list, please let us know.
Our online donation form has an "opt-out" mechanism for those
users who wish to make donations, but do not want to receive any additional
information or other material from the Emergency Fund.
Also, when you send a donation in honor or in memory of someone and request
that an acknowledgment be sent to another individual/family, we will use
the name and address of that individual/family for acknowledgment purposes
and for our mailing list.
The Emergency Fund will share your personal information only in connection
with certain activities:
A. Service Providers. Emergency Fund occasionally hires third
parties to provide certain administrative services - such as processing
credit card transactions, preparing address labels, managing databases,
and sending mailings - which requires the Emergency Fund to share personal
information with these service providers. We make an effort to require
all third party service-providers to hold personal information in strict
confidence.
B. Necessity. If law, a court or regulatory authority compels
us, the Emergency Fund will disclose personal information. Also, if we
have reason to believe that there has been some inappropriate interference
with or use of the Emergency Fund website, or if we have reason to believe
that one of our website users may have been injured or harmed some other
party, we will disclose personal information as we deem appropriate or
if asked by a legal or regulatory authority.
Remember, you are under no obligation to disclose any personal information
if you do not want to. If you are not comfortable with the Emergency Fund's
uses of information, you may always decide to opt out or decide not to
use those website services or features that require personal information.
Correcting Your Information
You may correct or amend the personal information maintained in the Emergency
Fund's mailing lists by contacting us at 312.379.0301 or info@emergencyfund.org.
To protect your privacy and security, we will take reasonable steps to
verify your identity before granting access or making corrections. Prior
to being given any information, callers will be asked cross-referenced
questions, i.e., full name, address, phone number, and, if applicable,
credit card expiration date, in order to verify their identity and protect
the privacy of the Emergency Fund's donors.
Our Commitment to Data Security
To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the
correct use of information, the Emergency Fund has put in place reasonable
procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online.
We care about the safety of your credit card transaction: secure server
technology is used throughout the online donation process. Our website
uses Authorizenet.com's and Paymenttech.com's high-grade encryption software
and the https security protocol to communicate with your browser software.
As a result, it is extremely difficult for anyone to intercept the credit
card information you send to us. Contributions may also be made by calling
312.379.0301.
Our Commitment to Children's Privacy
Protecting the privacy of children and young people is especially important.
For that reason, we never collect or maintain information on our website
from those we know to be under 13 years of age, and no part of our website
is structured or intended to attract anyone under 13 years of age.
